The Shea Heritage Celebrations Programme (SHCP) is a flagship initiative of EcoGrowth Development Initiatives Foundation (EGDIF) designed to institutionalize and coordinate shea heritage celebrations across international, national, regional, and community levels in Ghana.
The programme provides a unified framework for planning and implementing annual shea commemorative events that celebrate cultural heritage, recognise women’s contributions, and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders in the shea sector.
SHCP is implemented through a structured national coordination system that brings together government institutions, traditional authorities, development partners, civil society organisations, academia, the private sector, media, and local communities to jointly celebrate Ghana’s shea heritage.
The programme features international observances such as World Shea Day, national flagship celebrations, rotating regional heritage festivals, and district and community-level events that showcase cultural identity, traditional knowledge, and the economic importance of shea.
Each annual cycle follows a structured calendar of events including planning meetings, community celebrations, regional festivals, national commemorations, and annual review and appreciation ceremonies to ensure continuity and impact.
